Titus County Texas Ramp Project
Titus County Texas Ramp Builders is a group of local individuals who volunteer their time to build wheelchair ramps in Titus County. In 2023, a record 30 ramps were completed for clients referred by their health care or social workers. Titus County Texas Ramp Builders has contracted with Ark-Tex Council of Government Area Agency on Aging to build ramps for those clients that are over 60 years of age. For those clients who do not meet that requirement, the Texas Ramps Project provides support. As a non-profit organization, the Texas Ramps Project is dependent on support from our local community through donations from individuals and business or service organizations.
Titus County Texas Ramp Project is seeking partnerships with local businesses interested in support of community engagement and giving initiatives. Because we use exclusively volunteer labor, our largest cost is in lumber and other materials for ramps, often purchased at a discount. A donation to the Texas Ramp Project can be designated specifically for Titus County. All funds received will go directly to the purchase of ramp materials,
The Texas Ramp Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to establish regional wheelchair ramp-building programs across Texas. The regional projects provide free ramps to older adults and others with disabilities in financial need. The ramps are built by volunteers following ADA guidelines. Ramps are provided regardless of age, gender, religion, race or ethnicity. The only requirement is that clients be physically compromised and unable to afford a ramp.
The Texas Ramp Project incorporated as a statewide nonprofit in 2006. Since its founding the Texas Ramp Project has set up local organizations in over 40 Texas regions. Since 1985 volunteers across the state have built over 26,000 ramps. These ramps, if laid end-to-end, would extend more than 133 miles. In 2023, the Texas Ramp Project built more than 2,400 ramps in 134 counties. This achievement is thanks to the dedication of more than 3,500 volunteers who since 2006 have logged over 595,000 hours, valued at $15 million.
We are unaware of any other organization in the state that does what TRP does—build free wheelchair ramps for people in quantity and on a regular basis. A major factor in our nonprofit model is that we only build ramps. We do not engage in interior accessibility repairs or any other activity that involves skills. This is why we can recruit unskilled labor, including men, women, families, businesses, youth groups, etc. They do not require any special skills, so recruitment is much easier.
The long-term goal of the Texas Ramp Project is to serve everyone of Texas’ 254 counties. Disability and poverty exist in every corner of this state. A simple ramp, built by loving neighbors, can radically alter the living conditions of a person who is confined to home due to a disability. Sadly, if the Texas Ramp Project does not provide a ramp, chances are no one else will. This is why TRP strives to assemble the leadership, manpower and funding to make it happen.

If your business or service organization is interested in assisting in providing volunteer opportunities or financial support for Titus County Texas Ramp Builders, we would love to have you in partnership with us! We know that our local businesses receive many requests from deserving non-profits, what is unique about Titus County Ramp Builders is the chance for employees to volunteer a few hours of their time to help build a wheelchair ramp. Typically, the average time required to build a ramp is less than 3 hours. The average cost of materials for a ramp is $550.00. A single ramp may be anywhere from 20 ft. to 32 ft.
We believe that your employees will experience a high level of satisfaction by changing a client’s life and your business’s community impact will rise. Titus County Texas Ramp Builders will be able to build more ramps and more Titus County residents will have the freedom to enter and exit their homes. Some statistics indicate that for every person that can “age in place,” a savings to taxpayers of approximately $80,000 can be achieved.
We want to offer you and or your employees the chance to volunteer with us and enjoy the “test the ramp moment”. The client being rolled down their new ramp for the first time…the client is often in tears, crying tears of joy. Their family is often moved to tears as well.
